We are delighted to highlight RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, the country’s national research institute and innovation partner, dedicated to strengthening industrial competitiveness and contributing to a sustainable and resilient society. Through strong international collaboration with academia, industry, and the public sector, RISE bridges research and practical implementation, helping accelerate Europe’s digital and green transitions.
As one of Europe’s most versatile applied research organizations, RISE provides a unique environment for testing, validation, and deployment of cutting-edge digital technologies — from cloud and edge computing to AI-driven systems and data-intensive applications.
Role in the HIGHER Project
Within the HIGHER Project, RISE plays a leading role in advancing the software ecosystem and validating its performance in real-world settings.
RISE is responsible for the development of the Meta-Operating System (MetaOS), a modular software layer designed to integrate and manage diverse computing resources efficiently. This system provides users with seamless access to digital services, spanning from Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to Platform as a Service (PaaS), enabling flexible and scalable deployment of cloud and edge applications.
In parallel, RISE serves as a key testing and evaluation hub, leveraging its advanced infrastructure to assess the performance, scalability, and efficiency of the HIGHER platform under realistic operational conditions. Its validation work ensures that the HIGHER ecosystem meets the highest standards of reliability, interoperability, and energy efficiency, demonstrating tangible advantages over existing solutions.
By combining its expertise in digital infrastructure, systems integration, and applied research, RISE ensures that HIGHER’s technologies are both scientifically robust and industrially relevant. Its contribution is essential to translating HIGHER’s open-source hardware and software advances into real-world impact, reinforcing Europe’s leadership in sovereign, sustainable, and high-performance cloud and edge computing.
