Meet the Consortium: EXAPSYS

We are proud to present EXAPSYS (EXAscale Performance SYStems) plc, a Greek SME dedicated to advancing high-performance computing (HPC) systems and applications that address real industrial challenges. Leveraging research outcomes and intellectual property from major Cloud and HPC initiatives, EXAPSYS brings together expertise in HPC and Embedded Systems to design and implement highly parallel, innovative applications for heterogeneous Cloud, HPC and Edge platforms, incorporating FPGA- and AI-accelerated solutions. EXAPSYS collaborates closely with multiple partners across diverse domains, including FORTH, Synelixis, and the Technical University of Crete, highlighting its strong multi-institutional collaboration network.

Role in the Project
EXAPSYS leads the Hardware Platform Prototyping effort, contributing to the design, development, and integration of next-generation processor modules and management systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Processor Modules: Developing modules based on EPAC/EUPILOT processor chip, fully compliant with OCP specifications to ensure interoperability and scalability.
  • Management Firmware: Leading the development and customization of firmware for the DC-SCM Management Module, based on OpenBMC for flexible and secure system management.
  • System Integration: Contributing to the prototyping of an OCP- compliant server chassis, integrating processor and management modules alongside commercial off-the-shelf components.

Within the scope of these tasks, EXAPSYS is responsible for delivering critical project milestones, including processor modules and the DC-SCM, enabling the deployment of fully modular OCP servers for high-performance cloud and edge infrastructures. By combining expertise in HPC, embedded systems, and FPGA-based innovation, EXAPSYS is central to building the hardware foundation of the HIGHER project. Its work ensures that Europe advances toward processor independence, open computing standards, and cutting-edge HPC platforms supporting both industrial and scientific applications at scale.
