On 12 June 2026, the HIGHER project participated in the RISC-V Summit Europe 2026 Side Events in Bologna, Italy, contributing to the workshop “Advancing RISC-V Adoption in HPC and Cloud Environments”. The event brought together leading European research and innovation projects working on open hardware, software ecosystems, and next-generation computing architectures.
The workshop served as a key forum for exchanging ideas on collaboration, validation strategies, software enablement, and pathways toward commercial adoption of RISC-V-based systems. Across the programme, contributions highlighted the growing maturity of the European RISC-V ecosystem, spanning hardware-software co-design, accelerator development, operating systems, security, and cloud/HPC integration.
Within this context, the HIGHER project contributed a dedicated presentation titled: “Integration of RISC-V Security Standards in the HIGHER Project” Nick Kossifidis, FORTH
The work presented at the RISC-V Summit Europe 2026 highlighted a multi-phase security evolution strategy, starting from a flexible software-based implementation and progressively integrating hardware security accelerators such as Caliptra.
A major highlight was the discussion of how this approach enables a practical path toward secure RISC-V systems today, while remaining compatible with future transitions toward more advanced hardware roots of trust such as Caliptra and DICE Protection Environments (DPE).
The workshop reinforced the importance of cross-project collaboration within the European RISC-V ecosystem, with contributions also presented by the DARE, EUPILOT, CAPE, OpenCUBE, and RISER projects, covering topics ranging from vector architectures and accelerators to heterogeneous edge infrastructures and operating system integration.
HIGHER’s participation at the summit highlights its active role in shaping secure, open, and interoperable RISC-V-based systems for future HPC and cloud environments.
