RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, took the stage at the 2025 Open Compute Project (OCP) Foundation Global Summit, held under the theme “Leading the Future of AI.” The summit brought together nearly 11,000 participants, making it a record-breaking gathering for the global open hardware and AI infrastructure community.
During their session, titled “An Overview and Update of the EU AI Factories Initiative,” RISE researchers Jon Summers and Çağatay Yılmaz provided an in-depth look at Europe’s efforts to build a new generation of AI-optimized supercomputing facilities. Their presentation explored how the EU’s multi-billion Euro HPC investment is driving the development of advanced AI infrastructure to train state-of-the-art models while reinforcing Europe’s technological sovereignty.
A key highlight of the session was the progress at Mimer AI Factory, one of the flagship initiatives within the EU AI Factories network. The discussion emphasized how open standards and OCP designs can support the demanding requirements of AI workloads — particularly around energy efficiency, scalability, and sustainability.
The presentation also featured guest speaker Joseph Gonnachon from 2CRSi, who introduced the HIGHER Project. The collaboration between HIGHER and the EU AI Factories initiative demonstrates a shared commitment to open, efficient, and standardized computing solutions for large-scale AI deployment.
The OCP Global Summit is a powerful platform for sharing European innovation in open hardware and AI infrastructure. By aligning our work with OCP standards, we are helping shape a more energy-efficient and sovereign AI ecosystem in Europe.
